This is the first time such a project has been implemented in Chisinau. The introduction of park-and-ride facilities into the transportation network will optimize traffic flow, reduce the number of cars entering the city each day, and allow drivers to continue their journey via public transportation.
Park-and-ride facilities will ease traffic congestion
The largest park-and-ride facility of this type in the municipality, with a capacity of more than 520 spaces, is located on Vadul lui Vode Street in the Cocani sector. Earthwork and the construction of access roads are already underway there.
Earthwork is also continuing at the park-and-ride facility on Codrilor Street in the Buiucani sector. The project includes 250 parking spaces, two entrances, a public transit stop, and a waiting area for public transit passengers and drivers.
In the Rîșcan sector, at the parking lot on Calea Orheiului Street, work is underway to prepare the site for the construction of 178 parking spaces, including spaces for people with disabilities.
Final work will begin shortly on Gidigich Street in the Buiucani sector, where all the necessary infrastructure for 240 parking spaces will also be installed.
Work on Hîncești Highway, under the Telecentre Bridge, has been completed: road markings have been applied, and signs and dividers have been installed. A parking lot with a capacity of about 250 spaces will be put into operation shortly and will relieve traffic congestion in this area of the capital.
According to the capital’s city hall, work is continuing in parallel to develop new public parking lots in all sectors of the capital—along major streets and within residential neighborhoods.
Plans call for the development of new parking lots on Plăiluil, Trandafirilor, Independenței, Hristo Botev, Nicolae Zelinsky, and Cetății Albă streets, as well as on Muncești Highway.
