“The government will provide support this cold season as well, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection will announce the details, since we need to wait for the final decision from the National Energy Regulatory Agency,” Buz said on public radio.
According to him, about 40% of compensation recipients heat their homes with firewood. In such cases, support cannot be provided through utility bills, so compensation is paid in cash.
Buzu noted that details regarding the number of aid recipients and the criteria for providing compensation are still being finalized.
“I can only say that next winter, the government will stand by its citizens,” he said.
Earlier , Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu also stated that the government would continue to provide support to the population during the cold season to offset part of the increase in gas costs. According to him, the authorities are considering a return to direct compensation applied to utility bills, as they view this mechanism as more effective than the system used this year.
Currently, residential consumers pay for natural gas at a rate of 13.35 lei per cubic meter excluding VAT, or 14.41 lei including VAT (8%). The ANRE’s draft decision proposes a rate of 18.70 lei per cubic meter excluding VAT, which amounts to 20.30 lei including VAT. The final decision must be made by the agency’s Board of Directors.
