At the end of the session, members of the Chamber of Deputies received compensation for medical treatment

Members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova received an annual tax-free allowance for medical expenses in the amount of 19,520 lei. The announcement was made by MP Ion Chicu, who criticized this practice and stated that he would forgo the amount he received.

According to Chicu, the money comes from the public budget, and expenses for medical treatment should not constitute an additional benefit for elected officials.

“Thank God, at 54 years old I am healthy, I exercise, and I do not believe that members of parliament, like any other government official, should receive additional funds to maintain their health. If necessary, I should be treated like any other citizen, through the contributions I pay for health insurance,” stated Ion Chicu.

The MP claims that, in total, approximately two million lei from the state budget have been allocated for these reimbursements.

Chicu announced that he will not keep the money and will transfer it to his party’s women’s organization, which carries out charitable activities. According to him, the funds will be used to support children before the start of the new school year.

Starting August 1, members of Parliament will be on recess, which will end on August 24.
