Global Innovation Index

It should be noted that in 2022, the country ranked 56th. Thus, between 2022 and 2025, the republic’s ranking dropped by 18 places.

The Global Innovation Index provides a comprehensive analysis of the innovation ecosystems of 139 countries. This study tracks global trends by evaluating investment patterns, technological progress, the pace of innovation adoption, and their socioeconomic impact.

The WIPO Global Innovation Index is compiled based on seven key pillars, divided into two sub-indices: innovation capacity and innovation performance. In total, the assessment of more than 80 indicators takes into account criteria such as institutions, human capital, and infrastructure.

Moldova’s decline in the Global Innovation Index—56th place in 2022, 60th in 2023, 68th in 2024, and 74th in 2025—reflects a long-standing systemic crisis in a critical area of the country’s development, as innovation enables the creation of high-value-added products and drives not only the country’s economy but also its image.

China is in 10th place, Germany in 11th, and Japan in 12th.

Among our neighbors: Romania is in 49th place, Russia in 60th, and Ukraine in 66th.
