The main topic of the meeting was the amendments to the Domestic Trade Act (No. 231/2010), which will take effect on August 10, 2026.
The new provisions of this law require economic operators to indicate the country of origin of food products directly on the price tag. These amendments are aimed at ensuring clear, accurate, and transparent information on the origin of food products, as well as strengthening their traceability throughout the distribution chain, according to an ANSA report.
During the meeting at the ministry, stakeholders also discussed issues related to compliance with food labeling requirements set forth in Law (No. 279/2017) on consumer information, as well as regulations governing the preparation, storage, and retail display of ready-to-eat products. This topic is particularly relevant during the summer months.
