The prospects for implementing the program were discussed on July 16. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and builds on the humanitarian assistance that has been provided since March 2022, following the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine.
The meeting participants identified several priority areas for further work. In particular, they plan to implement a pilot phase of the project in three communities to test housing provision models and strengthen the local social support system.
In addition, the partners intend to use their accumulated experience to develop national standards in the field of social housing policy and to attract investment in the housing sector.
More than 15,000 beneficiaries
According to the project organizers, since its launch, more than 12,900 Ukrainian refugees and 3,500 host families in Moldova have received support. As part of the initiative, thousands of temporary housing units have also been created in specialized centers.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of more active participation by local authorities and communities in implementing such projects. It is expected that the initiative’s further development will be based on cooperation between central and local authorities, civil society, and international partners.
Following the talks, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and Caritas Moldova confirmed their intention to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. The document is intended to formalize the cooperation between the parties, ensure the continuity of ongoing projects, and lay the foundation for the program’s long-term development.
