Six medical specialties have been standardized

The Ministry of Health has updated the Republic of Moldova’s Classification of Occupations (CMO) by approving six new professional standards for medical specialties whose professional profiles and legal status had not yet been formalized. The ministry’s corresponding order has been published and has entered into force.

These include professions such as midwife, medical assistant, emergency medical assistant, laboratory diagnostic medical assistant, pharmacy medical assistant, and dental technician.

As a reminder, the Classification of Occupations of the Republic of Moldova is a regulatory document intended for use by employers when entering into contracts with employees. It includes a list of legally recognized professions and positions, with descriptions of their pay-grade and qualification characteristics, functions, duties, and tasks, as well as requirements for employee professional training.

The documents outline labor market prospects as well as trends in these fields. Practitioners were extensively involved in the development of these regulatory documents.

The development of professional employment standards began in Moldova in 2008. This work was primarily carried out by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Education and Research. The process was then interrupted but resumed in 2020 in accordance with the approved Methodology for the Development of Occupational Standards.

The newly recognized professions reflect labor market trends and changes in the structure of the Moldovan economy, particularly the growth of medical tourism. They will facilitate employers’ operations within the framework of the law.
