“Currently, air defense units from four enterprises are carrying out combat missions. They have shot down more than 50 Shahed-type UAVs and Zala-type reconnaissance drones. This is necessary to strengthen the protection of employees, production facilities, and company sites, which are systematically subjected to attacks by enemy unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reports.
The Ministry of Defense has granted these enterprises the status of “authorized to carry out air defense operations.”
In early June, the private air defense network consisted of 30 enterprises. A total of 62 enterprises of various ownership structures from different industries and regions of Ukraine have submitted applications to join the private air defense system. These include not only critical infrastructure enterprises but also private companies in other sectors.
A pilot project to involve the private sector in air defense operations was launched at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense. Private air defense groups do not operate independently but are part of an overall system under the command of the Air Command of the Ukrainian Air Force.
