Moldova is looking forward to welcoming guests from India

The President of the Republic of India, Draupadi Murmu, who is arriving in Moldova on Monday, July 20, at the invitation of President Maia Sandu, will be accompanied by several dozen businesspeople. The Office of the President has announced the official visit of the high-level Indian delegation. This is the first-ever visit by an Indian head of state to our country since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of India on March 20, 1992.

During the meeting in Chisinau, the presidents of the two countries will review the full range of bilateral relations and discuss new areas of cooperation, including expanding access for Moldovan products to the Indian market, attracting Indian investment, and developing cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and digital transformation.

The presidents will also open the Moldovan-Indian Business Forum, organized by the Investment Agency on the occasion of the visit. The event will bring together representatives of the business communities of both countries—the Indian delegation includes about 30 businesspeople—with the aim of stimulating trade and investment cooperation in areas such as infrastructure and construction, manufacturing, information technology, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and the agri-food sector.

“India, the world’s largest democracy with a population of over 1.4 billion, is one of the world’s largest economies and boasts the highest growth rates. For the Republic of Moldova, India is a partner of growing strategic importance, with whom we seek ever closer cooperation,” the official statement reads.

In recent years, Moldovan-Indian relations have shown positive momentum. In October 2024, bilateral political consultations between the two countries resumed in New Delhi after a 21-year hiatus. In December 2024, the Republic of Moldova opened its embassy in New Delhi. As early as February 2025, India opened its market to Moldovan apples.

In the energy sector, the Indian company KEC International, the winner of an international tender, completed construction of the 400-kV Vulcănești–Chișinău overhead power line. Moldova joined the International Solar Alliance, a global initiative launched by India in partnership with France, headquartered in New Delhi.

Ties have also been established in the field of education. More than 1,400 students from India are studying at universities in our country, most of them at the Nicolae Testemicianu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
