IFAD Supports Investment in Rural Roads in Moldova

Big things start small. A 1.23-kilometer “white version” of a rural road has been built in the village of Telitsa (Anenii Noi District) with support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) program in Moldova.

The road leads to the farmland of 22 local farmers.

The total investment in this project is 2.6 million lei; 75% of this amount comes from a grant from the  IFAD, while the remainder was provided by IFAD, with the rest coming from contributions by the local administration and agribusinesses.

“The development of road infrastructure has a significant impact on the quality of life and economic activity in the region. Thanks to our collaboration with IFAD, we now have this opportunity,” notes Rodica Russu, mayor of the village of Telitsa.

“This road is absolutely essential for farmers. It will allow us to transport agricultural products under better conditions, regardless of the season or weather,” says local farmer Dumitru Frunza.

As part of the IFAD VIII project in Moldova, six rural public infrastructure facilities have already been built and rehabilitated.
