The Japanese delegation was led by Tokutaro Nakai, a member of the board of directors of SDG Impact Japan and an active participant in the Millennium Sustainability Foundation, and former Deputy Minister of the Environment of Japan.
The dialogue between the parties focused on the idea of a local company producing and utilizing biogas. The potential production capacity of such a company is significant. This facility produces approximately 900 metric tons of distillation waste per day, and by installing a specialized system, about 250 metric tons of this waste will be converted into biogas daily. This resource will enable the company to reduce its dependence on external natural gas supplies. By recovering energy from waste generated during the production process, the project will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually.
The parties also discussed concepts for other projects in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas emission reductions that could receive support through cooperation mechanisms offered by the Government of Japan under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (Joint Crediting Mechanism), of which the Republic of Moldova has been a member since 2022.
The Joint Crediting Mechanism is a bilateral framework program for crediting carbon emission reductions, established by the Government of Japan. Under this program, Japan cooperates with more than 30 countries worldwide to implement decarbonization projects. This contributes to achieving the climate goals adopted by the countries participating in the Paris Agreement.
