Maia Sandu announced that she had already signed the decree of appointment:
“I have decided to nominate Vasile Tofan as a candidate for the office of prime minister,” she said at a press conference held to mark the occasion. She noted that the decision was made following consultations with parliamentary factions.
However, opposition parties had previously refused to participate in consultations with the president. They accused the authorities of “mimicking democratic processes” and called for early parliamentary elections.
The businessman himself stated that he views this decision not as a career achievement, but as a great responsibility.
