Of this amount, the government has allocated more than 1.8 million lei to compensate for the value of property confiscated during the period of political repression. The decision was made at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, June 17.
The funds will be distributed based on the findings of special commissions and requests from local authorities to pay compensation to six claimants. The money will be sent to the municipal councils of Bălți and Chișinău, as well as to the district councils of Călărași, Dondușen, Dubăsari, and Rîșcani.
Under current law, individuals who were subjected to political repression and subsequently rehabilitated, as well as their heirs, are entitled to the return of confiscated property. In cases where restitution in kind is not possible, the state is obligated to pay monetary compensation to the victims.
However, as Logos Press has previously reported, land plots, forests, perennial plantations, and other assets removed from civilian circulation are not subject to restitution under the law. In such cases, the state pays monetary compensation.
