“Ensuring that citizens have access to water amid severe drought and low water levels in the Novodnestrovsk Reservoir must be a priority for us—regardless of whether we’re talking about the government or local authorities,” the prime minister said.
According to him, the Chisinau City Hall approached the government a few days ago with a request to provide the motor pumps needed to increase the capacity of the Vadul-lui-Vodă water intake station, which is managed by the municipality.
“Ensuring the population’s water supply should not become a subject of political disputes, and I will not allow this issue to be politicized,” Tofan emphasized. He reported that he had ordered the necessary equipment to be allocated from the reserves of the Material Reserves Agency.
The first motor pump, with a capacity of 1,200 cubic meters of water per hour, has already been delivered to Vadul-lui-Vodă and put into operation. Four additional high-capacity units will be provided in the near future.
In total, the government will provide Chisinau with five motor pumps with a combined capacity of 5,200 cubic meters per hour. The equipment will enable water to be pumped over significant distances and enhance the capital’s preparedness for potential water supply disruptions.
The prime minister called on all parties involved—both government agencies and Chisinau City Hall departments—to work together and seek the most effective solutions so that, should the situation on the Dniester River worsen, the capital’s residents would be provided with water.
The authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid a prolonged drought and falling water levels in the main water sources.
