Corina Călugăr, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting in Chișinău with UNESCO representatives Julia Melotti and Mehdi Benshelah and discussed with them the progress of the project “Protecting Information Integrity to Prevent Conflicts in Moldova.”
Calugaru emphasized the particular significance of this initiative. She noted that in recent years—including against the backdrop of the war in a neighboring country—disinformation campaigns have intensified sharply in Moldova, and attacks on journalists have become more frequent. The Secretary of State expressed confidence that this project will provide tangible support to the independent press and help restore citizens’ trust in authoritative sources of information.
In turn, the international experts presented an initial assessment of the work that began in March 2026. They discussed measures to promote media literacy among the population, increase society’s resilience to external manipulation, and enhance the safety of media workers.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in deepening cooperation within the framework of this 12-month project, whose key objective is to protect the information space and strengthen the democratic resilience of the Republic of Moldova.
