Trump has arrived in China

US President Donald Trump has arrived in Beijing for a three-day visit - the first for an American leader in nine years.

The White House chief’s plane landed at the capital’s airport on the afternoon of May 13. Trump was met on the tarmac by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, followed by an official welcoming ceremony, reports Xinhua.

Along with Trump, a large American delegation flew to China. It includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer, and the heads of nearly two dozen major U.S. companies.

The main topic of the meeting will be trade relations between the world’s two largest economies. The parties will discuss the extension of the trade truce in effect since October 2025, as well as the possible expansion of supplies of American products to China.

It is expected Beijing is expected to announce new purchases of American products. In particular, China may commit to buying 25 million tons of soybeans annually for the next three years, as well as increase imports of U.S. beef, poultry and other agricultural products.

In addition, a major deal to supply Boeing airplanes and increase exports of U.S. oil, gas and coal to the Chinese market are being discussed.

According to Reuters, the Chinese side, in turn, will seek the easing of U.S. restrictions on the supply of semiconductors and equipment for their production. The issue of Taiwan also remains on the negotiating agenda.

Note that the last time Donald Trump visited China in November 2017 during his first presidential term. The current visit will last until May 15. Trips to other Chinese cities are not scheduled in the program.
