The 23rd General Assembly of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) will also take place during these days, where important decisions for the world viticulture and winemaking will be made. More than 700 scientists, winegrowers, oenologists and leading specialists in the field of winemaking are expected to attend these events. Thus, Chisinau will become the world capital of grapes and wine and will turn into a leading tourist destination in Eastern Europe.
The theme of the congress will be “Further development of viticulture and winemaking: ensuring resilience, increasing value, encouraging innovation”.
The National Bureau of Grape and Wine told Logos Press that researchers from 32 countries submitted 279 abstracts of their reports. They were divided into sections “Viticulture” (88 abstracts), “Enology” (100 abstracts), “Economics and Law” (63 abstracts) and “Safety and Health” (28 abstracts). The scientific program of the congress is structured according to these four thematic sessions.
According to OIV President Yvette van der Merwe, the Congress represents an ideal moment to take stock of our common successes and to prepare together for future challenges.
“With 4 hectares of vineyards for every 100 inhabitants of the country and with 15% of the economically active population employed in the wine sector, Moldova is rightly uniquely positioned to organize on its territory important events dedicated to sustainable development, innovation and resilience of the sector,” said Andrian Digolian, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
