The measure is provided for in the draft government resolution on the distribution of certain appropriations approved by State Budget Law No. 322/2025 for 2026.

Moldovan labor legislation stipulates that the leave not realized by employees before the entry into force of the law (April 1, 2024) must be granted to them until December 31, 2029. After this deadline, the days are considered to be redeemed.

In the event of suspension or termination of an individual employment contract, the employee is entitled to compensation for all unused vacation days.

It was later established that an employee may use vacation days accrued and unused also in the period until April 1, 2024.

In particular, if an employee for valid, documented reasons cannot use annual paid vacation in the relevant calendar year, the employer is obliged to provide it within two years.

The draft has been submitted by the Ministry of Finance for public consultations. Proposals on it will be accepted until June 16, 2026.
