This issue was discussed during a meeting between Corina Călugaru, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Yesim Oruc, the UN Resident Coordinator in Chisinau.

It was emphasized that strengthening the UN system’s presence in the Republic of Moldova by including a UNESCO representative in the Country Team would allow for more effective use of the organization’s expertise in the fields of education, culture, science, and cultural heritage.

Currently, UNESCO’s activities in the Republic of Moldova are coordinated by the Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe.

Corina Călugăr reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the UN and to further leveraging the organization’s potential and mechanisms to support reforms and advance the process of European integration.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed key aspects of cooperation and priorities for the near future. One of the main items on the agenda was a discussion of the future Framework Program for Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the UN for 2028–2032. In addition, they discussed preparations for the submission of the second Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report will be presented in July in New York at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

A separate topic of discussion was the Republic of Moldova’s candidacies for elective bodies of the United Nations. In this context, our country’s interest in strengthening its contribution to the global agenda and multilateral processes aimed at maintaining peace, ensuring sustainable development, and protecting human rights was noted.
