The new $1 coin has already attracted the attention of not only collectors, but also fans of technology and Apple products. However, you will not be able to buy it at face value – you will have to pay much more for the special edition.
How the commemorative coin with Steve Jobs looks like
The coin depicts a young Steve Jobs in a pensive pose on the background of the nature of California. The US Mint explained that the design symbolizes the period of creative exploration and inspiration that helped Jobs turn complex technologies into simple and intuitive products.
The authors of the design note that it was the atmosphere of California, its culture of innovation and freedom of thinking that became an important part of Apple’s philosophy. From iPhones to MacBooks and other devices in the brand’s ecosystem, the company maintains this approach today.
US Mint Director Paul Gollis noted that the release of the coin is a symbolic recognition of Jobs’ contribution to the development of American technology.
“Steve Jobs was an extraordinary innovator and a man who changed the world’s interaction with technology. This coin highlights his incredible contributions and importance to California and to all of the United States,” Paul Gollis said.
How much the coin is worth
Despite the $1 face value, the collector’s coin costs more. It will be sold in two formats:
A roll of 25 coins – for $61;
a bag of 100 coins for $154.
Thus, the actual cost per coin slightly exceeds the face value. This is standard practice for commemorative issues produced for collectors and admirers of historical figures.
