The National Bank of Moldova has issued a commemorative coin titled “Sergiu Rădeuțanu—100th Anniversary of His Birth”

Effective June 17, 2026, the National Bank of Moldova will put into circulation a commemorative coin titled “Sergiu Rădeuțanu—100th Anniversary of His Birth,” which is part of the “Science and Innovation” series.

This commemorative coin marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rădeuțanu (1926–1998) — a world-renowned scientist, specialist in the physics and chemistry of semiconductor materials, the first rector of the Chisinau Technical University, and a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

A Doctor of Science and professor, he published over a thousand scientific papers and was awarded numerous honors, including the “Order of the Republic” and the title of “Honored Scientist.” His work has made a significant contribution to the development of technical education and the formation of the intellectual community in Moldova.

The commemorative coin is made of silver, has a face value of 50 lei, and has a mintage of 500 pieces.

Each coin is packaged in a transparent methacrylate capsule and a presentation box, and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

The certificate contains a QR code that provides direct access to detailed information about the coin’s specifications, available on the institution’s official website.

The NBM sells these commemorative coins based on applications submitted online in the “Coin” section of its official website, as well as through licensed banks.
