The heat brought trucks to a standstill: lines of trucks have formed at the Moldova-Romania border

Extreme heat has disrupted freight traffic between Moldova and Romania. After Bucharest imposed a temporary ban on heavy vehicles, trucks began to back up at several border crossings.

The restrictions apply to trucks weighing more than 7.5 metric tons and are in effect on a number of national roads, expressways, and highways in Romania. The ban is in effect until 8:00 p.m. due to high temperatures, which place additional strain on the road surface.

Moldova’s border police reported that some carriers are forced to wait for the restrictions to be lifted in special waiting areas. Trucks that have passed through the Leușeni–Albita border crossing are parked inside the crossing. Vehicles that entered via Sculeni are parked in a lot near the border.

Carriers delivering perishable goods, transporting live animals, or using empty tanker trucks are exempt from the restrictions.

The border police have urged drivers and transportation companies to plan their trips in advance and take weather conditions into account when choosing a time to cross the border.

It should be noted that a red weather hazard alert is in effect in Moldova due to extreme heat.
