On the first weekend of autumn, 40 small-scale winemakers from various regions of Moldova exhibited their produce in the courtyard of the National Museum of the History of Moldova, presenting around 250 wines.

For the first time, the festival lasted three days rather than two, due to growing interest from the wine-loving community. This is also because it is the only event in the country dedicated exclusively to small-scale winemakers producing unique wines.

Arkady Foshnya, President of the Council of the Association of Small Winemakers of Moldova: ‘For us, artisanal wine means creative freedom, but also a responsibility to preserve its quality and distinctiveness. In a world where wines are becoming increasingly standardised, we believe there is a place for wines that tell their own story. And there are many such stories in the Republic of Moldova: we have diverse ‘terroirs’, local grape varieties, traditions and, above all, a new generation of producers who boldly experiment and create their own style. The festival is dedicated to them, to the families who work together, and to the people who pour their passion into their craft.”

The Association of Small Winemakers of Moldova was founded in 2010 and currently has 65 members, who collectively cultivate over 500 hectares of vineyards, producing more than a million bottles of wine a year. The wines are exported to 25 countries, and in 2025 the value of exports exceeded $1.17 million, which is almost double that of 2020. Between 2020 and 2025, the Association’s member wineries won 649 medals at specialist competitions both at home and abroad.
