The speaker of the legislature noted the remarkable positive trend in the indicators over recent years, highlighting the joint efforts of educators and the relevant ministry.
“The numbers speak for themselves: this year we truly have 114 graduates with exceptional results, compared to 85 last year and 57 in 2024. This proves that our school is capable of great things, that the reforms initiated by the minister in collaboration with the teaching staff are moving in the right direction, and that investments in education are bearing fruit,” emphasized Igor Grosu.
Smoothing Out Social Disparities
In turn, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perchun explained the specific measures currently being taken in the education system and their strategic goal.
“This is precisely why we are reorganizing the school network, this is precisely why the Restart reform in education is so important, and this is precisely why we are investing in a network of model schools and purchasing school buses. We are working to ensure that the gap between rural and urban areas, between the center and the periphery, and between families with different means becomes less and less significant,” Perchun stated.
In his view, the true effectiveness of an educational system lies in its ability to ensure equal opportunities for all children.
“A successful educational system is not one that produces only 114 young people with perfect scores. A truly good education system is one that helps every child reach their potential: whether a child from Chisinau or a child from a small village; a child who has a library at home and a child who doesn’t even have a separate desk to do homework; a child who learns easily and a child who needs more support,” the minister concluded.
As a reminder, the Restart reform in the education sector calls for the creation of regional education agencies, to which school management functions will be transferred from district councils. These agencies will report directly to the Ministry of Education and Research. The mayor of Chisinau criticized this reform, accusing the authorities of seeking to “centralize the education system” and place all educational institutions under the direct control of the relevant ministry.
