Nikol Pashinyan stated this in a video published on his Facebook page.

Recall that on May 29, during the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union held in Astana, the presidents of 4 member states of the Union – Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan – adopted a statement on the situation around Armenia in the Eurasian Economic Union. They called on the Armenian authorities to hold a referendum on the choice between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union as soon as possible.

In response to the statement, Pashinyan said that Armenia will continue to work within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union until the choice between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union becomes inevitable.

As Armenpress reports, the Prime Minister noted that there are currently no grounds for holding such a referendum, as Armenia’s European integration process has not yet reached the stage where a clear choice can be presented to citizens.

“Until Armenia officially applies for membership in the European Union or approaches the status of a candidate for EU membership, holding any referendum is illogical,” Pashinyan noted.

According to him, today such a choice is still theoretical.

“Therefore, we will continue to work calmly, peacefully, without nerves, without disputes in the Eurasian Economic Union, and I am convinced that we still have potential in this direction, which we will use in the near future,” he said.
