For his part, outgoing Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu thanked Osmochescu for accepting this mission.
“Starting tomorrow, in accordance with the decree signed by President Maia Sandu, Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Osmochescu will assume the duties of prime minister. I thank him for accepting this responsibility and wish him success in this mission. I am fully confident that he will ensure the government’s continued operations with a sense of responsibility,” Munteanu said.
The decree appointing Eugen Osmochescu as acting prime minister takes effect on July 8, 2026.
Eugeniu Osmochescu will turn 54 on July 31. He is a lawyer and an international expert in structural reforms with more than thirty years of experience in managing economic and regulatory policy. He holds a Ph.D. in international law (State University of Moldova) and a master’s degree in comparative and European law (Maastricht University). For 16 years, he worked as a program manager at the World Bank Group/IFC in Belgrade, Chisinau, and Kyiv. He is fluent in several languages.
