Moldovan team won a prize at the Mathematical Olympiad in Greece

The Moldovan national team successfully performed at the 43rd Balkan Mathematics Olympiad (BMO 2026), which took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from May 3 to 8, 2026. Moldovan schoolchildren won a total of 4 medals - one silver and three bronze. The young mathematicians won silver in the team competition.

The Moldovan team traditionally includes students from the theoretical lyceum “Orizont” (Chisinau), who often represent the country at the international level. 148 schoolchildren from 25 countries participated in the competition. The Moldovan team was represented by six lyceum students of 11-12 grades and two teachers.

Silver medal: Marius Cerlat (lyceum “Orizont”, Durlesti).

Bronze medals:

Alina Popescu (lyceum “Orizont”, Durlesti);

Anastasia Corsac (lyceum “Orizont”, Durlesti);

Alexander Ivanichkin (lyceum “Orizont”, Durlesti).

Vladislav Smokine and Alexandru Bordei were also winners in the team competition . Congratulations, guys!

The team was prepared and accompanied at the Olympiad by Valeriu Gutu, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor of the State University of Moldova, team leader and Dorian Croitoru, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, Deputy Team Leader.
