This phase covers key areas of the integration process: the rule of law, judicial reform, and good governance. The conference is attended by representatives of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan delegation is led by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimov will present the Republic of Moldova’s negotiating position. Following the conference, Prime Minister Munteanu will hold a joint press conference with representatives of the EU Council and the European Commission.

The visit’s agenda also includes a bilateral meeting between Alexandru Munteanu and the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Luc Friedan, as well as a discussion with European Investment Bank Vice President Karl Nehammer, during which they will explore opportunities to support strategic development projects in the Republic of Moldova.

As noted by the government press service, the opening of negotiations on the first set of chapters “confirms the country’s transition to a new phase of its European course and the commitment of the Chisinau authorities to strengthening the rule of law, carrying out judicial reform, and bringing national standards into line with European norms.”

The first Intergovernmental Conference on the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union took place in Luxembourg on June 25, 2024, marking the start of the negotiation process.
