Broadband Genie compared the cheapest and most expensive broadband markets in the world based on average monthly subscription fees in U.S. dollars.

The cost of internet access varies much more widely than many people realize. In some countries, a fixed broadband subscription fee costs just a few dollars a month, while in others it can exceed $300.

The results show a difference of more than 140-fold between the cheapest and most expensive markets. Geographic location is a key factor: remote islands feature prominently among the world’s most expensive places for internet access.

According to Broadband Genie, the top five most expensive countries for internet access include the Wallis and Futuna Islands ($373.88), Turkmenistan ($286.24), the Turks and Caicos Islands ($252), Saint Barthélemy ($207.26), and Eswatini ($193.31).

The five cheapest countries are: Iran ($2.61), Ukraine ($5.35), Ethiopia ($6.46), Bangladesh ($7.38), and Mongolia ($7.41).

Broadband access costs about the same in Belarus, Pakistan, Turkey, and China as it does in Moldova. In Russia, it costs $10, and in Romania, $8.
