The Moldovan-Austrian Economic Forum will take place on September 9, 2026, in Vienna as part of the meeting of the Moldovan-Austrian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. The event is intended to serve as a strategic platform for establishing new trade and investment partnerships. In this context, a delegation from the Republic of Moldova, led by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, recently paid a working visit to Vienna.
During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmocescu held meetings with Austrian officials, representatives of economic institutions, and members of the business community. The meetings focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in strategic areas such as industry, logistics, energy, transportation, information technology, and digitalization.
Opportunities for Investors
In a dialogue with Wolfgang Hattmansdorfer, Federal Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism of the Republic of Austria, the competitive advantages of the Republic of Moldova were presented, progress in the process of European integration, and measures aimed at creating a modern, transparent, and investor-friendly business environment were presented.
The potential of the Republic of Moldova’s free economic zones, industrial parks, and technology hubs as platforms for developing investment projects and integrating companies into European value chains was highlighted.
Key meetings were also held with representatives of the Austrian business community, including Christoph Neumayer, Secretary General of the Federation of Austrian Industries; Igor Sekardi, CEO and Director of International Affairs and Markets at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, as well as representatives of leading companies Gebauer & Griller and OMV.
Strategic Partnership with UNIDO
A highlight of the visit was the Deputy Prime Minister’s meeting with Gerd Müller, Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). On this occasion, the Country Partnership Program for the Republic of Moldova for 2026–2032 was signed. This program establishes a strategic framework for cooperation aimed at supporting sustainable industrial development, enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises, promoting the environmental and digital transitions, developing skills, and supporting the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector.
Austria remains one of the Republic of Moldova’s key economic partners. Currently, more than 90 companies with Austrian capital operate in the Moldovan market. The volume of Austrian investments is estimated at approximately 47.3 million euros.
