During a working trip to the Brest Region, he resumed the discussion on restoring “the leading, guiding role of the Communist Party,” admitting that he does not yet know how to do so.
“We’ve lost a lot”
The president’s main point is nostalgia for the Soviet system of personnel management. He compared Belarus to China, where “nothing was dismantled or rejected,” which is why it has achieved success.
Against this backdrop, Lukashenko admitted:
“And today we are thinking about how to restore the leading, guiding role of the Communist Party.”
At the same time, the president noted that even his press secretary, Natalya Eismont—who “doesn’t know how to go about it”—understands the scale of the losses:
“But even she, a young girl, understands that we’ve lost a lot. We no longer have that level of control. We lack personnel, and most importantly, we lack policy. And it all started there, with the district committees. Today, that’s gone.”
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first such statement by the Belarusian president. Back in April 2026, Lukashenko spoke about the possibility of “carrying out a reform of state governance, drawing on the experience of the past” and criticized “Westernizers” who, in his words, advised Belarus to abandon the one-party system.
