London will supply Ukraine with 150,000 drones using funds from frozen Russian assets

By the end of the year, the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with at least 150,000 drones, as well as hundreds of anti-aircraft missiles and radar systems, as part of a new military aid package worth nearly 1 billion pounds. This was announced by British Defense Minister Dan Jarvis following talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Mykhailo Fedorov.

According to Jarvis, in addition to drones, Kyiv will receive 350 missiles for air defense systems and additional radar equipment. “We will stand with the Ukrainian forces for as long as it takes,” said the head of the British Ministry of Defense.

According to The Telegraph, the total cost of the package will be 752 million pounds. Funding will be provided as part of a 2.26 billion-pound British loan to Ukraine, secured by future proceeds from frozen Russian assets. Of this amount, approximately 500 million pounds is earmarked for the purchase of drones.

The new delivery will be a continuation of the military support program for Kyiv announced by London. In April, the British government announced the transfer of more than 120,000 drones of various types to Ukraine. At the time, officials noted that the package included long-range strike drones, reconnaissance drones, logistics drones, and maritime systems already being used by Ukrainian forces on the front lines.

The United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a 2.26 billion-pound loan agreement under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) mechanism, agreed upon by the G7 countries. The program provides for the allocation of up to $50 billion to Ukraine using revenue generated from frozen Russian state assets.

It should be noted that approximately 18 billion pounds in assets belonging to individuals subject to sanctions, as well as about 26 billion pounds in assets of the Central Bank of Russia, are frozen in the UK. Last December, European Union member states agreed to an indefinite freeze on Russian assets totaling approximately 210 billion euros; however, a unified mechanism for using these funds to finance Ukraine remains a subject of debate within the EU.
