Kulminski: “We have established good relations with the new US administration”

Moldova has forged good relations with the new US administration and achieved concrete results in the fields of security, trade and energy. This was stated by Moldova’s Ambassador to the US, Vlad Kulminski, as he summarised his first year in office.

“For me, the most important outcome is that relations between Moldova and the United States are very strong. And we have managed to develop them further. We have established good relations with the new US administration, the State Department, the White House and the National Security Council. We have significantly expanded our ties in Congress — with both Republicans and Democrats. Congress has approved $36.5 million for the Republic of Moldova’s security this year,” the diplomat noted.

According to Kulminski, one of the key outcomes of economic diplomacy has been changes in trade relations with the US. Moldova has abolished customs duties on the vast majority of American imports, and the 25 per cent tariff that previously applied to Moldovan goods is no longer in force.

Another area of focus has been energy cooperation. The US has approved the Strășeni–Gutinash power line project, which will be implemented by American companies and is set to strengthen Moldova’s energy security.

The ambassador also highlighted the expansion of cooperation beyond Washington – in particular, the strengthening of the partnership with North Carolina and the development of new contacts in Indiana and other states.

“After my first year in post, I am even more convinced of one thing: a small country must be very active and very visible. No one will promote Moldova’s interests on our behalf. We must make our presence felt, build relationships and turn them into tangible results. For me, the measure of success is what we bring home: greater security, investment, a reliable energy supply, better conditions for exporters and more opportunities for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” emphasised Kulminski.

According to him, this will be the main priority for his second year as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the US.

It should be recalled that Donald Trump officially took office as the 47th President of the United States on 20 January 2025.
