Vasile Costiu, leader of the Democrația Acasă party, stated that the resignation came “following a high-profile scandal in the presidential administration last night, when the prime minister demanded the resignation of several corrupt officials…”.

PDCM leader Ion Chicu stated that “the main reason is that the country has been taken over by a criminal group—the PAS.”

He also addressed European partners and ambassadors: “Act just as you did in November 2019, when Ms. Sandu resigned.”

PSRM leader Igor Dodon called for early parliamentary elections: “Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu jumped ship in time—it turned out to be rotten. He made the right decision. He realized there was no one left to work with there. And this is only the beginning of the end for the most cynical, hypocritical, and corrupt government in the country’s history. The public is waiting for and demanding early elections. Let there be early elections!”

Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban stated: “The entire PAS leadership and Maia Sandu must resign. Alexandru Munteanu refused to accept the PAS’s schemes, gangsterism, the protection of relatives, and racketeering that have taken root in the Republic of Moldova.”

As a reminder, when announcing his resignation, Alexandru Munteanu stated that he had decided to step down after concluding that he could no longer fulfill his duties in accordance with his principles and convictions.

“The moment I realized that I could no longer fulfill my mandate in accordance with the principles and convictions I hold dear, I decided to step down,” Munteanu said in a statement announcing his resignation.

Alexandru Munteanu was sworn in and officially took office as prime minister on November 1, 2025.

UPDATE 10:44

The leader of the parliamentary party “Our Party,” Renato Usatii, stated that the Republic of Moldova needs either early parliamentary elections or “a government of professionals, formed by competent, experienced, and honest people, regardless of their political affiliation”: “The new prime minister must urgently initiate the creation of a working group with the participation of representatives of all parliamentary factions, extra-parliamentary parties, and experts from key sectors to prepare a National Governance Program.”
