German State Minister for European Affairs Günter Krichbaum is in Chisinau on May 15-18 to participate in a meeting of the Council of Europe’s foreign ministers, hosted by Moldova.

During the visit, the German official held meetings with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, Germany’s support for Moldova’s European course and strengthening the country’s resilience in the face of security challenges.

The sides emphasized that more and more European states support Moldova’s European integration. At the same time, internal reforms remain key to advance on the path towards European Union accession.

“Germany will continue to firmly support Moldova’s European course – both at the political level and through the strong support existing in the German society. We believe in Moldova’s European future,” State Minister Günter Krichbaum said, quoted by the Moldovan government’s press service.

The officials also touched upon topics related to the country’s reintegration, strengthening economic and social ties between the two banks of the Dniester, as well as support for Ukraine.

At the same time, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi will pay a visit to Berlin between May 18 and 19. He will hold a meeting with German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful and will participate in the high-level conference “Energy Security – Lessons for Ukraine”.

Moldova and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1992, and at present, the two states have dozens of cooperation agreements in such fields as economy, social security, development and investment protection.
