According to the lawmaker, the decision was made by party leader Vasile Kostyuk.
“We have respect for the state, for the office of the presidency, and for the Constitution. Party leader Vasile Kostyuk announced today that we will run for the presidency. I am absolutely not interested in what MAN or the PSRM say. This is the people’s choice. The people voted for this European course; we must be responsible and go to the presidential office,” Alexandru Vershinin said on Jurnal TV.
It should be noted that MAN party deputies and the faction of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) have publicly stated that they will not participate in the consultations.
It should be noted that, according to the Constitution, if the prime minister resigns, the entire government resigns. Until the members of the new government are sworn in, the current government performs only the functions of managing public affairs. After consulting with the parliamentary factions, the president nominates a candidate for the office of prime minister. Within 15 days of the nomination, the candidate for prime minister asks Parliament to grant a vote of confidence in the government’s program and its entire composition.
