The event took place in the garden of Star Fruit Trio SRL in the village of Crețoaia, Anenii Noi District, and brought together members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Republic of Moldova, as well as representatives of government agencies, the agricultural sector, and the business community.
“We want such initiatives to become a tradition, a platform for discussions between diplomats and entrepreneurs, since partnerships are built on dialogue, continue in negotiation rooms and at trade fairs, and allow us to facilitate access for our domestic products to new export markets. Every diplomat present here today can become an ambassador for Moldovan products in the country they represent,” said Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi.
Export Potential
Participants learned more directly from the producers themselves about the work they have done and the process of harvesting cherries and peaches.
Of particular interest was the potential of the flat peach—one of the most promising fruit crops in the Republic of Moldova, valued for its quality, transportability, and strong export prospects. Currently, this variety is grown on approximately 200 hectares in the country and is increasingly gaining a foothold in foreign markets, including those of the European Union.
“We harvested our first crop of peaches in 2013. Today, in our 21-hectare orchard, we grow sweet cherries, peaches, and cornelian cherries. Last year, we exported about 100 metric tons of peaches and 20 metric tons of sweet cherries, with most of the produce going to Romania and Slovenia. It’s important for us to have access to foreign markets because that allows us to sell our products and grow our business,” said entrepreneur Yuri Stratan.
The event continued with a tasting of Moldovan wines and a traditional outdoor lunch. This gave guests the opportunity to experience the hospitality, cuisine, and authentic products of the Republic of Moldova.
