According to the press office of the President’s Office, the visit by representatives of both U.S. political camps — the Republican and Democratic parties — underscores the strong bipartisan support that the Republic of Moldova continues to enjoy in Congress in Washington.

“During the dialogue with the head of state, the key topics of discussion were the implications of Russia’s war against Ukraine for regional security and the pressure being exerted by Russia. At the same time, the parties addressed issues related to strengthening cooperation in the fields of defense and security, as well as enhancing resilience, particularly in the areas of cybersecurity and energy security,” the statement noted.

Maia Sandu expressed her gratitude for the United States’ unwavering support and strategic investments, and also congratulated the American people on the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence. The president noted that this year, as the Republic of Moldova marks the 35th anniversary of its independence, the partnership with the U.S. plays a crucial role in transforming our country into an increasingly strong and stable regional partner.

The visit continued at the Parliament, where Speaker of the Parliament Igor Grosu received the U.S. delegation led by Senator Ted Budd. The officials discussed specific measures for medium- and long-term cooperation, with a particular focus on countering disinformation, attracting U.S. investment into the local economy, and developing new joint projects.

The Speaker of Parliament emphasized that the United States’ ongoing financial and logistical assistance directly contributes to strengthening the country’s energy security and stability. Following the meeting, Igor Grosu stated that Moldova needs strong partners, and the United States has consistently demonstrated that it stands by Moldovan citizens during the most critical moments.
