A plane crashed into Beijing’s tallest skyscraper

The plane crashed into one of the upper floors of CITIC Tower—Beijing's tallest building, also known as China Zun.

According to Reuters, people were evacuated from the building. The area around the skyscraper has been cordoned off by police, some roads have been closed, and access for pedestrians is restricted. Emergency services are on the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported a loud bang and debris falling onto the streets. According to Reuters, at least two sections of glass panels on the upper floors of the building have been damaged. There is also a large police, fire, and ambulance presence at the scene.

CNN reports that a Sunward SA60L Aurora light aircraft may have been involved in the incident, though there is no official confirmation of the aircraft type yet.

For its part, The New York Times reports that large pieces of the aircraft and construction debris may have fallen onto the street following the impact. One eyewitness reported seeing a woman with a head injury who was taken away by an ambulance, though no official information on casualties has been provided.

The cause of the incident has not yet been determined. Chinese authorities have not officially commented on the incident.

The 109-story CITIC Tower (China Zun) is the tallest building in China’s capital and one of the key landmarks in Beijing’s business district.
