The document views tourism as a strategic sector of the economy that has a direct impact on regional development, the export of services, attracting investment, supporting local entrepreneurship, and promoting cultural and natural heritage.
The program will be implemented through the Action Plan for 2026–2029. According to government estimates, the planned measures will create about 5,000 new jobs and increase the tourism industry’s contribution to the national economy.
Priorities include the development and modernization of tourism infrastructure, the training of industry professionals, and the promotion of tourism offerings using modern digital solutions. In addition, the program provides for support for rural tourism and more effective use of the Republic of Moldova’s cultural, natural, and wine-making potential.
According to official data, in 2025 the country’s tourism sector welcomed more than 600,000 visitors and generated revenues exceeding 5 billion lei, which attests to the growing interest in Moldova’s tourist destinations.
Earlier, the government approved the transfer of tourism oversight to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization. According to Minister Eugen Osmocescu, these new areas will become part of the ministry’s operational activities, in part through the integration of the National Tourism Office.
