“Ukrainska Pravda” reports this, citing a joint statement by the G7 leaders. In the statement, the G7 leaders reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people amid Russia’s systematic attacks on critical infrastructure and cultural heritage sites. They commended Ukraine’s resilience and the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield over the past few months. “To support and accelerate this new momentum, we have agreed to increase the supply of air defense systems, additional systems and interceptor missiles, as well as long-range capabilities. We are also prepared to consider granting Ukraine the necessary licenses to help increase military production in Ukraine.”
In addition, the leaders agreed to provide support in strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of the coming winter. The G7 also pledged to increase pressure on Russia’s military economy by expanding sanctions against the Russian oil and gas sectors.
Previously, President Zelenskyy had repeatedly appealed to the U.S. to grant licenses for the production of Patriot air defense systems. He highlighted the acute shortage of interceptor missiles amid constant Russian ballistic strikes, as well as the fact that U.S. production capacity cannot keep up with global demand, but the situation has not moved forward.
In early June, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is cooperating with European and American partners to establish production in European countries of air defense systems capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.
On June 16, during the G7 summit, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelensky personally asked Trump to grant Ukraine licenses to manufacture American anti-missile systems and interceptor missiles, specifically for the Patriot air defense system. According to the Ukrainian president, Trump responded “positively” to this proposal, and teams from both countries will begin working on this issue.
