Moldovan Freelancers Paid Nearly 10 Million Lei in Taxes Since Start of 2026

Since the beginning of the year, freelancers have paid nearly 10 million lei in taxes

The total income reported by freelancers in May of this year amounted to 36,109,007.73 lei, while the total flat tax calculated was 5,416,351.16 lei. This is 34.22% more than in April.

The State Tax Service reports that it has sent 2,819 notices to freelancers regarding the payment of the single tax for May 2026.

It is specified that approximately 46.51% of entrepreneurs recorded transactions in special bank accounts. Of these, 48 used cash registers and control equipment connected to the “Electronic Sales Monitoring” system, with total cash receipts amounting to 757,587.01 lei.

As of June 10, 2026, according to data from the State Tax Service, there are 2,844 individual entrepreneurs registered in Moldova, and the amount of the single tax paid by them totals 9,589,204.73 lei.

The State Tax Service clarifies: the deadline for freelancers to pay the single tax for May of this year is June 25, 2026.

The tax rate is 15% if annual income does not exceed 1,200,000 lei, and 35% for the portion of income above this threshold.

The single tax is allocated as follows: 26.3% to the local budget and 5.0% to local fees, 53.3% to the social insurance budget, and 15.4% to health insurance funds.
