BAK-2026: Historical record for the number of dozens of “automatons”

The 2026 Baccalaureate examinations have begun for thousands of graduates under the sign of academic excellence. The National Commission for Examinations announced a record number of candidates who will receive a mark of "10" "automatic" 3,791 graduates in foreign language, 1,136 in computer science and, for the first time, 112 candidates in Romanian language and literature for foreign-speaking students.

Lilia Ivanov, director of the National Curriculum and Assessment Agency, emphasized that the number of young people benefiting from this benefit has reached a historic high in the last decade. “While in 2020 we had 1,349 students who received a “10” automatic in a foreign language, today we are seeing a steady increase, which indicates an increasingly high-quality preparation of our students,” said the ANCE director.

The practice was introduced in 2015. Initially it concerned only linguistic competences, from 2024 it was extended to recognize international certificates in computer science, and from this year the discipline “Romanian Language and Literature” (for foreign-speaking students) was also included in the list – for holders of B2 level certificates.

The BAC-2026 session officially started on Tuesday, June 2, and began with the Romanian Language and Literature exam, which was taken by 3,107 candidates from minority-language educational institutions. In total, about 18,500 graduates are expected at 92 examination centers in the country.

Exam schedule:

June 5: Language of instruction (more than 16,300 candidates);

June 9: Foreign Language (over 17,100 candidates);

June 12: Profile Examination (Mathematics, History, Arts or Sports);

June 16: Discipline of choice (Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Physics or History);

June 19: Mother tongue (Gagauz, Bulgarian or Ukrainian).

On the occasion of the start of the exams, Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun addressed the graduates with an inspiring message: “The Republic of Moldova needs you. I encourage you to continue your studies at home, in our increasingly modern universities, and contribute to the development of this country by becoming professionals in your field”.
