The Romanian Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) within the Romanian government announced the suspension of the 2026 project funding session, reports gandul.ro.
According to the department, the suspension is due to the decision of the Bucharest Court of Appeal No. 905/2026 of May 21, 2026, and all procedures related to the call for projects are suspended “until further legislative acts are adopted.”
DRRM has not yet announced a new timetable for resuming the reception of applications for funding or the evaluation of already submitted projects.
The reason is unknown
By Decision No. 905/2026 of May 21, 2026, the Court of Appeal of Bucharest – Section VIII for Administrative and Fiscal Disputes – granted the request of the Administrative-Territorial Unit of Sibiu County and suspended the execution of the Annex to the Order of the Secretary of State for Administrative and Fiscal Disputes No. 23/2026, which approved the Guidelines for Grant Funding for 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Romania No. 288 of April 9, 2026. The suspension remains in force until the case is resolved on the merits. The deadline for hearing the case is June 16.
The purpose of this guideline was to finance projects in the fields of culture, media, education, spirituality and traditions, as well as civil society, all aimed at supporting Moldovan citizens.
The reasons why the administrative and territorial unit of Sibiu County challenged the guideline were not made public.
The Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova is the institution of the Romanian Government responsible for managing the programs of grant financial support for projects in the Republic of Moldova, financing for many years initiatives in the field of education, culture, digitalization and school infrastructure on both banks of the Prut River.
