These 12-meter low-floor buses manufactured by Tata Motors are powered by a 70 kW Fuel Cell propulsion system and have 37 seats each. The buses run solely on green hydrogen generated from solar energy and stored at 350 bar. They have a range of 350 kilometers.
The 12-meter hydrogen vehicles from Tata Motors for pilot city routes cost about $350,000 to $400,000 per unit.
In 2025, India has announced a program to pilot 37 different hydrogen cars – at a total cost of $60 million – with fuel cell cars and vehicles with internal combustion engines.
In Europe, hydrogen buses are also making their way. For example, the well-known Egyptian automaker MCV supplied 35 hydrogen-electric buses C127 FC LE to ÖBB Postbus for use in regional transportation in Carinthia, Austria. The official handover of the vehicles took place on May 6, 2026 in Villach at the same time as the opening of the first hydrogen refueling station connected to the project. This fleet represents the largest deployment of hydrogen buses in Austria to date.
They sell them from €375,000 and a kilogram of hydrogen costs €5-7. They cost 0.25-0.35 euros per km to operate.
