“We, non-technical people, sometimes do not even realize how much work is behind the creation of such familiar and useful things: a single number 112, money transfers from loved ones from abroad or ordinary card payments. A huge amount of work has been done in 2025. Today, this field has become an integral part of one of Moldova’s largest industries and a real engine of our economic growth,” Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu said in a video message.
For her part, State Secretary Michel Iliev emphasized the key role of specialists in telecommunications and digital infrastructure.
“This field becomes visible only when there is a failure: networks, submarine cables, satellites, data centers. The backbone of the digital economy. Whether we are talking about preferential roaming, the efficiency of the 112 emergency service, fast money transfers from loved ones from abroad, secure card payments or access to online education – all this is possible only thanks to people,” Michelle Iliev said.
The greatest contribution to GDP growth
According to the ministry’s 2025 report, the “Information and Communication” sector made the biggest contribution to Moldova’s GDP growth. The gross added value increased by 12.5%, providing 0.9 percentage points of the national economy growth.
Between 2020 and 2025, the share of the IT and telecommunications sector in GDP increased significantly, from 4.9% to 7.5%. This was supported by both external demand for IT services, mainly export-oriented, and the digitalization and innovation policies promoted by the government.
In addition, exports of services increased by 17.7% in nominal terms, mainly due to a 22.3% increase in exports of specifically telecommunication, computer and information services.

Exports of telecommunications, computer and information services
As Logos Press previously wrote, Moldova ranks 34th with 84 points in the world ranking of Internet freedom in 2026. And according to nPerf, an independent expert in telecommunications, Moldova is among the top 5 countries in Eastern Europe in terms of fixed broadband internet access thanks to developed fiber-optic networks
“Universal digitalization”
At the same time, the authorities and the business environment expect the digital transformation to accelerate in the coming years. One of the most important events dedicated to the industry will be Moldova Digital Summit 2026, which will be held on June 5-6 in Chisinau.
The event will bring together leaders in technology, banking, startups and business to showcase solutions based on artificial intelligence, automation and cybersecurity. The summit agenda includes topics such as SME digitalization, AI-based banking, smart accounting and digital transformation of human resources, with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of Moldovan companies on regional and international markets.
