
The delegation that will arrive in Chisinau consists of experts from Hungary, the Czech Republic and Norway, accompanied by representatives of the Secretariat of the Framework Convention.
During the visit, the experts will hold meetings with key state institutions, including the Agency for Inter-Ethnic Relations, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Justice, the Council for Television and Radio and the National Institute of Justice. Discussions will focus on progress made in ensuring the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, access to media, promotion of cultural diversity and measures to combat discrimination.
The delegation will make study visits to the Taraclia district and Cahul municipality. There, the experts will meet with local authorities, representatives of civil society and ethno-cultural communities, as well as with ethno-cultural organizations accredited by the Agency for Interethnic Relations. The purpose of these meetings is to identify existing problems and best practices in the field of national minority protection.
The monitoring mission will end on June 5 at the Government House, where a final meeting will be held. At this meeting, the Council of Europe experts will present their preliminary observations, which will form the basis of a future opinion on Moldova – a reference point for strengthening the state policy in the field of inter-ethnic relations in the coming years.
The Council of Europe Framework Convention protects the rights of national minorities by guaranteeing equality, non-discrimination and the possibility to preserve language, culture and identity.
