Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Beijing on May 19-20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Kremlin press service said Saturday. The trip is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral friendship treaty.
The agenda of the strategic partnership
The Kremlin said the leaders will review bilateral relations and discuss deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation as well as key international and regional issues. During the talks, they are expected to emphasize the coherence of positions on the multilateral security framework.
Economic and gala program
Putin and Xi Jinping plan to sign a joint statement and a number of bilateral agreements after the talks. The Russian president will also meet with Prime Minister Li Keqiang to discuss economic cooperation and attend the opening of the Russia-China Years of Education for 2026-2027 together with Xi Jinping.
The visit comes after Xi Jinping’s trip to Moscow in March 2023 and Putin’s participation in the One Belt, One Road forum in Beijing later that year. The Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the two countries was signed in 2001.
