The White House believes that the public statements of US President Donald Trump could derail the process of rapprochement with Iran and complicate negotiations on a possible end to the war. This is reported by CNN with reference to sources in the American administration, writes cursorinfo.co.il.

According to the channel, by the end of last week Washington and Tehran came close to an agreement that could lead to the end of the seven-week standoff. However, the situation changed after Trump began actively commenting on the talks in the public space – through social media and phone conversations with journalists.

The US president said that Iran had allegedly already agreed to a number of key conditions, including the transfer of enriched uranium stockpiles and the acceptance of the most controversial American demands. However, CNN’s sources say that these provisions have not yet been finalized between the parties.

Following such statements, Iranian officials publicly denied Trump’s remarks and said Tehran had not accepted such conditions. In addition, Iran denied preparations for a new round of negotiations, which markedly weakened expectations of a possible deal.

The TV channel’s interlocutors said that some U.S. officials privately consider such rhetoric by the president harmful to the diplomatic process. In their opinion, the attempt to negotiate via social media has increased Tehran’s distrust and created the impression that Washington is trying to impose already agreed terms.

Contradictory reports about US Vice President J.D. Vance’s possible trip to Pakistan for a new round of talks also caused additional uncertainty. Trump claimed that Vance was on his way to Islamabad, but later it was reported that the flight had not yet taken place.

According to CNN, the talks could begin on Wednesday, but there is no final clarity yet. Official Tehran continues to maintain that no new contacts with the U.S. are planned at the moment.
