U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday, June 18, on the social media platform Truth that Apple has agreed to partner with Intel to develop and manufacture its chips in the United States, according to finam.ru.
The partnership with Intel will help Apple diversify its manufacturing base as it seeks to increase its chip production capacity. The iPhone maker relies heavily on TSMC, whose cutting-edge production lines are in high demand among artificial intelligence chipmakers such as Nvidia and AMD.
Intel reached a preliminary agreement to manufacture certain chips for Apple after more than a year of discussions, The Wall Street Journal reported in May.
Last year, the Trump administration acquired a 10% stake in Intel and announced plans to invest about $10 billion in the chipmaker to build or expand factories in the United States.
